This Design Competition, Geylang Serai Cultural Belt Design Competition, will take the format of a Single-Stage Open Design Competition.Ī) The competition is open to local practicing architects registered with the Board of Architects (BOA) who are aged 45 years or below on the date of submission for the competition.ī) The eligible architect registered for participation in the competition is required to form an MDT comprising of an Architect (AR), who is to be the registered Architect, a Civil & Structural Engineer (CS) a Mechanical & Electrical Engineer (ME) and a Quantity Surveyor (QS).Ĭ) All members of the MDT are to be employed by firms that are listed on the Public Sector of Consultants (PSPC). These plans to make Geylang Serai more culturally distinctive were unveiled by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the National Day Rally on 19 August 2018.
To further strengthen the identity and along with the recent completion of the new Wisma Geylang Serai, PA, together with the stakeholders in the precinct, are looking to anchor the area along Changi Road, stretching from Tanjong Katong Complex to Kampung Ubi Community Centre, as the Geylang Serai Cultural Belt (Fig 1). Since 2008, the area has progressively developed into a lively commercial centre while retaining its unique cultural identity and remained a popular destination with the local Malay community till today. Geylang Serai is one of the oldest Malay settlements within Paya Lebar Central, which is a key growth area over in the central eastern part of Singapore.
